Grants Committee Member and Office Manager – Norwegian Hull Club
“I found out about The Insurance Charity via the International Underwriting Association’s HR Committee and jumped at the chance to volunteer for such a worthwhile cause. I wanted to do something that gave back to those in the industry who found themselves in less fortunate circumstances.
I have never regretted my decision and have really enjoyed being part of the Grants Committee. Working with a great bunch of individuals who are caring and knowledgeable has taught me so much. Reviewing cases and offering suggestions really gives me a sense of purpose and joy. We are positively impacting individuals and making their life that little bit easier.
It’s eye-opening to hear of the struggles some people are going through. I’m inspired by how each person is welcomed by the Charity, with compassion and without judgment. The only aim is to help them. We reach so many people from different backgrounds who are facing a wide range of challenges.
The most rewarding thing is seeing someone who has benefitted so much from the Charity’s support become self-sufficient again. Part of the strategy is to empower a person and steer them back to financial independence, which is so important.
It’s critical that employers continue to highlight the Charity, so those who need it are aware and know how to access support. I encourage everyone who knows about the organisation to talk about it with colleagues and ensure employees can access the information, particularly those in HR who signpost colleagues to support. The Insurance Charity is a great cause that I am so proud to be part of.”
