FAQs

I’ve recently applied to the Charity but not heard anything since.
What happens next?

We are currently experiencing an exceptionally high demand for our financial grants. Please be aware that applications submitted may not be reviewed for 4-6 weeks, and overall processing times will be considerably longer than our usual service standards. You should therefore expect a delay before receiving further communication from us.

We understand that many people apply to the Charity during difficult or uncertain circumstances, and that waiting for a response can be worrying. Please be assured that every application is important to us and will be assessed fairly, carefully and with compassion. We kindly ask you not to contact us for progress updates during the first 4-6 weeks following submission unless there has been a significant change in your circumstances. This will help our team spend as much time as possible reviewing applications and providing support to those who have already applied.

Is there a minimum amount of time I need to have spent in the industry?

No, it doesn’t matter how long you have spent in the industry. You’ll just need to provide independent confirmation of the length of your insurance employment, and when this took place.

I worked in the insurance industry a long time ago. Can I still get support?

Yes, your work in the insurance industry doesn’t need to be recent. We just need to be able to verify your employment history.

Do I need to be doing insurance-related work?

Not necessarily. Our requirement is that your work is/was either for a non-insurance-related role for an insurance employer OR an insurance-related role for a non-insurance employer. For example, you may be a HR administrator for an insurance company or advise a local authority on its insurance requirements.

Can you support me if I work in financial services?

Yes, if insurance is/was a significant part of your role.

Can I apply if I work outside the UK?

Yes, if you have also worked in the insurance industry in the UK or Ireland.

Do I need to belong to a membership organisation or body?

No, there is no requirement to be a member of any organisation.

Does my employer need to know I’ve applied?

No, provided you can supply the independent evidence we request.

I’ve received support before, can I apply again?

Yes, please use our online application form to explain your current situation.

What support is available?

You can ask for practical or financial help. Or a combination of the two. Once you’ve explained your individual circumstances, we’ll confirm the support that might be available, including help you didn’t specifically request.

Will my salary impact eligibility?

Not necessarily. We look at household income, savings and expenditure and review essential spending. We recognise that some households may have higher salaries and higher financial commitments. A higher salary does not in itself disqualify you from receiving help.

Will my application impact my benefits?

No. Our payments are charitable and should not impact statutory benefits. In fact, we’ll also advise you on whether you might be eligible for support from other sources, as our help cannot replace statutory benefits.

Who is classed as a dependant?

We class a dependant as follows:

  • Elderly relatives who are permanent residents at the applicant’s address and reliant on applicant financially or for care needs.
  • Child under 18 (or up to 21 in full-time education).
  • Widow/Widower of person with insurance service.
  • Adult child with disabilities or chronic conditions who cannot support themselves.
  • A spouse or partner residing with applicant who is financially dependent or requires care.
Do you carry out a credit check?

No, we don’t carry out credit checks at any stage of the process.

I’m struggling to complete the online application form, what can I do?

Please call us to discuss. We can help you start your application.

Will you ever talk to third parties about my application without my consent?

Only on very rare occasions (e.g. when fraud is suspected), would we approach appropriate third parties to discuss details supplied to us in your application.
