Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in North Wales with my husband and have worked as a commercial insurance broker for over 10 years.
When did you first contact the Charity and why?
I contacted The Insurance Charity in December 2023 on the back of a rough year following my mum passing away in the July and having to cover the funeral costs.
In addition, my husband (who was previously an army veteran) had to leave his job due to struggling with his mental health.
I felt like I was stuck and couldn’t continue trying to hold everything together on my own and just needed a little help.
Did you have any reservations about contacting us before you got in touch?
I was nervous as I hadn’t contacted anyone for help before and I didn’t know what to expect.
How did The Insurance Charity support you?
Massively. The response time was so fast. We were asked to send over a summary of our current situation and a detailed breakdown of our finances. We then had someone come out to visit us for a proper chat. He was so kind and there was absolutely no judgement. A few days later we received a letter offering regular financial support to help my income go further and confirmation of further help to access much needed therapy for my husband.
Has your situation improved since receiving support from The Insurance Charity?
Yes! I have noticed I am not in a state of anxiety every month, trying to figure out how I would cover all our bills and day-to-day costs. This has eased things a little at home now, which has made a big difference to our quality of life.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The support we were offered by the Charity was much greater than I could have ever imagined. Everyone who I have spoken to has been so nice and helpful and we are truly grateful.
What would you say to anyone thinking of contacting us for support?
I was nervous at first and felt undeserving. These feelings soon go when you speak to the team and see how empathetic and non-judgemental they are. I would encourage anyone who is struggling or in need of some help to get in touch as soon as possible.
