I have worked in financial services marketing for most of my career and spent ten years in the insurance industry. Until a few years ago, I was able to support myself and my family independently. I was used to coping, finding solutions, and managing challenges without asking for help.
Over time, a combination of professional pressure, family responsibilities, and unexpected health challenges began to take a toll. Although I remained committed to my work, the situation at home became increasingly difficult, and eventually my own health deteriorated. This led to a period of instability in which I was no longer able to work consistently, and financial pressure began to build.
I had been aware of The Insurance Charity for some time but hesitated to reach out. I questioned whether my situation would be considered serious enough and found it difficult to admit that I needed support.
The turning point came when it became clear that I could not manage everything alone. When I contacted the Charity, I was immediately met with understanding, professionalism, and respect. Being given the space to explain my circumstances without judgement was invaluable and made an enormous difference at a very vulnerable time.
The Insurance Charity provided both practical and emotional support when I needed stability most. This included financial assistance, clear guidance, and access to employment support through their wider network. Knowing that someone was on my side allowed me to step back, regain perspective, and focus on rebuilding.
Since receiving support, my situation has stabilised significantly. With breathing space and encouragement, my confidence returned, and I was able to re‑engage with the job market. I began securing interviews again and felt far better equipped to move forward, both professionally and personally.
Most importantly, the support I received helped restore a sense of control and dignity during an extremely difficult chapter of my life.
I would encourage anyone in the insurance community who is struggling – financially, professionally, or personally – not to wait until things feel unmanageable. Reaching out for support was one of the most constructive decisions I have made, and I remain deeply grateful for the help I received.
